Introducing the iPhone 15 Series: Everything You Need to Know
Revamped Design and Enhanced Features
Apple unveiled the highly anticipated iPhone 15 series at its Wonderlust event on September 12. The new lineup includes four options, with Cupertino taking the Pro iPhones to the next level. Here's what you need to know about these new phones.
New Dynamic Island Cutout for All iPhone 15 Versions
Apple has expanded the new Dynamic Island cutout, previously seen on the iPhone 14 Pro models, to all iPhone 15 versions. This new design feature is available in both 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays.
Increased Brightness and Textured Matte Finish
The regular iPhone 15 models now offer increased brightness of up to 2,000 nits outdoors, twice as much as the previous generation. The back glass is strengthened with an optimized dual-ion exchange process and features a textured matte finish for a premium feel.
Ultra-Thin Bezel and Titanium Design for the Pro Models
The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max feature an ultra-thin bezel and a titanium design, making them the lightest Pro lineup ever. The aerospace-grade aluminum enclosure also has a contoured edge for improved ergonomics.
All-New Action Button and Infused Colors
The iPhone 15 Pro models introduce the all-new Action button, which replaces the single-function mute switch. Users can now toggle between silent, vibrate, and ring modes, control media playback, launch the camera, and activate Siri with this button. Additionally, Apple has infused color throughout the back glass of the iPhone 15 models, offering five vibrant options.
Powerful A16 and A17 Pro Chips
The iPhone 15 and 15 Pro models are equipped with Apple's latest A16 and A17 Pro chips, respectively. These chips offer improved performance, energy efficiency, and advanced machine learning capabilities, providing a seamless user experience.
Camera Upgrades and Spatial Video Recording
The iPhone 15 series introduces camera upgrades, including a 48MP main lens for the standard models and a 24MP super-high-resolution default for the Pro models. The Pro models also feature an expansive telephoto camera with advanced stabilization. Additionally, the iPhone 15 Pro becomes the first device to record Spatial Video for Apple Vision Pro, allowing users to capture 3D videos.
USB-C Port and Enhanced Connectivity
All four iPhone 15 models have switched to a USB-C port, offering faster transfer speeds and improved compatibility with various peripherals. Users can now connect to external displays, digital audio devices, and more. The devices also feature an ultrawide-band chip for enhanced connectivity.
Roadside Assistance via Satellite and iOS 17 Updates
Apple has introduced a new "peace of mind" feature called Roadside Assistance via satellite, allowing users to connect with AAA for help when cellular and Wi-Fi coverage are unavailable. The iPhone 15 models also run on iOS 17, which brings updates to apps, privacy features, and mental health awareness.
Pricing and Review Highlights
The iPhone 15 series was released on September 22, with prices starting at $799 for the iPhone 15 and going up to $1,099 for the iPhone 15 Pro Max. BGR reviewed both models, highlighting the improved camera, brighter screen, and sleek design of the iPhone 15, and praising the powerful chip and advanced camera capabilities of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
