Stranger Things Actor Noah Schnapp Under Fire for Liking Offensive Posts
Introduction
Last week, we reported on Amy Schumer's controversial posts, but it seems like she's not the only one stirring up trouble. Stranger Things actor Noah Schnapp is facing backlash for liking offensive content on social media. From supporting Schumer's divisive statements to endorsing Islamophobic and queerphobic skits, Schnapp's recent actions have left fans disappointed and concerned.
A Tone-Deaf Endorsement
Schnapp initially disappointed fans by cheering on Amy Schumer's hateful posts. Despite the ongoing bombing of Palestinian civilians and the death toll surpassing 10,000, Schnapp showed support for Schumer's misguided statements. This endorsement was seen by many as tone-deaf and insensitive.
Conflating Issues
Not only did Schnapp support Schumer's controversial views, but he also seemed to conflate protests against the deadly bombing of homes, hospitals, and a university with antisemitism. By doing so, Schnapp ignored the fact that many individuals, including Jewish protesters, have taken a humanitarian stance against the ongoing violence in Gaza.
Liking Offensive Content
Now, Schnapp is under fire again for liking offensive posts, including a cringe skit that is both Islamophobic and queerphobic. The skit, shared by author Noa Tishby, depicts a fake news show where LGBTQ+ interviewers interact with a grotesquely offensive strawman representing Hamas. The skit perpetuates harmful stereotypes and promotes hate.
Internalized Homophobia?
What makes Schnapp's actions even more perplexing is the fact that he came out as gay less than a year ago. Sharing and endorsing content that is both homophobic and Islamophobic raises questions about internalized homophobia and a lack of self-awareness within the LGBTQ+ community.
A Hypocritical Endorsement
In another puzzling move, Schnapp shared a video by Ben Shapiro, a known promoter of anti-LGBTQ+ discourse. Schnapp's endorsement of Shapiro's content is not only disappointing but also hypocritical, considering the context of the ongoing massacre in Gaza. Schnapp's actions show a lack of awareness and empathy.
Blurring the Lines
The skit that Schnapp liked attempts to blur the lines between Hamas and the rest of the citizens of Gaza. It portrays Palestinians as violent bigots and reduces sympathy for the victims of the bombing campaign. This portrayal is misleading and perpetuates harmful stereotypes.
Gaza's LGBTQ+ Community
It's essential to remember that there are LGBTQ+ individuals in Gaza who are also affected by the ongoing violence. The IDF's actions have likely resulted in the deaths of more LGBTQ+ people than Hamas has since its inception. Schnapp's endorsement of offensive content undermines the struggles faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in Gaza.
Endorsing "Enemies"
Ironically, the skit Schnapp liked suggests that people shouldn't support their "enemies." However, by endorsing Shapiro, who opposes LGBTQ+ rights, Schnapp is doing just that. This contradiction highlights the need for Schnapp to reconsider his actions and strive to be a better person.
