Instagram Reels Now Available for Download: Here’s What You Need to Know

Instagram Reels, the popular short videos on the platform, can now be downloaded for offline viewing. Previously, users could only save Reels to their account, but now they have the option to download them to their phone or computer.
Creators Control Download Feature
While downloading Reels may be convenient for users, it may not be ideal for creators. However, Instagram allows creators to enable or disable the download feature with a simple toggle switch, giving them control over who can download their videos.
Global Availability
Instagram's Adam Mosseri has confirmed that the download feature for Instagram Reels will be available worldwide. The feature was tested in the US earlier this year and has now been rolled out globally.
How to Download Instagram Reels
To download an Instagram Reel, simply tap the share and copy button (the paper airplane icon) and select the new Download option. The downloaded Reels will include an Instagram watermark, your username, and an audio attribution.
Restrictions on Downloading Reels
It's important to note that Reels made before the download feature was introduced cannot be downloaded. Additionally, downloaded Reels are not allowed to be used for commercial purposes. However, Instagram acknowledges that it cannot control what users do with the downloaded videos.
Preventing Reels Downloads
Instagram offers several options for creators to prevent their followers from downloading their Reels. Reels from private accounts cannot be downloaded, and Reels from accounts belonging to creators under 18 are also restricted from downloading.
