Vote Results in Removal Following House Ethics Committee Report
George Santos, a Republican politician, has been ousted from his position as a member of the United States House of Representatives. The move came after a vote that received support from both Democrats and members of his political party.
Santos was sworn into Congress in January 2023 but was removed following the release of a report by the House Ethics Committee. The report raised questions about the misuse of campaign funds, suggesting that Santos used the money for personal expenses such as designer clothing, cosmetic procedures, and OnlyFans subscriptions.
Expulsion Vote Results
After the report was released, a vote was held, with 105 Republicans and 206 Democrats voting to expel Santos. However, he did receive support from 105 Republicans and two Democrats who voted to keep him in office.
Historical Significance
This marks the first time a member of the House has been removed since 2002 and the sixth time an expulsion has occurred.
Special Election to Fill Vacant Seat
A special election will be held to fill Santos' vacant seat. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Additional Charges in October
In October, Santos was also charged with serious crimes.
